So, here we are in November already, hopefully the Autumn was kind to you, but winter is officially knocking on the door now and we need to be ready for it. This winter I will be sticking to the tried and tested formula that served me so well last year. The ever-reliable Cell baits with all the trimmings. I like to chop and crush the bulk of my bait in winter and just have about ten percent left as whole baits, often in a couple of different sizes. I do this to ensure there is a nice, high leakage, carpet of bait out there and, also, to encourage smaller fish to grub about and attract the carp. The smaller crumbs of bait also hang about in the water column above my area and further attract fish.

Particles are something I continue to use as well, all different sizes and buoyancies to add to the effect. Liquid attractors really come into their own in the winter and the new Smart liquid that I was testing last year will be a major part of the armory again. The results were terrific for all the lads on the test liquids and I will be soaking all my chopped feed in it a couple of days before setting out, giving it a chance to really cling to every part of the bait. Hookbaits will be Cell Balanced Wafters boosted with the Cell Hookbait Enhancment System glug and my whole swim will, once again, smell lovely and as carpy as you know what. Last year I landed a string of fish throughout the winter with this approach, topped off by the amazing ‘Posh Sutton’ from Kingsmead One on the RK Leisure complex, hopefully this year will be equally successful!
