About Matt Godfrey
Matt originates from a small village called Kiveton on the edge of Sheffield, and started fishing at just 3 years old with his dad and grandad, mainly around the Lincolnshire area fishing on the River Trent and Fossdyke Canal. He was soon competing in matches against adults in local clubs, and joined the Worksop junior team at just eight years old. From there he fished Youth Nationals winning multiple team and individual medals on the national stage before been selected to represent England in the Youth Team at just 14 years old. He went on to win three Youth World Championships individually, collecting many team medals on the way too, also joining the renowned Barnsley Blacks squad for his domestic UK team fishing. Since then, he’s become an established member of the England Senior team competing at European and World level, collecting over 25 International medals along the way to date, with the Team England and The Barnsley Blacks at World Club Championship events. Back in the UK, Matt prides himself on being an allrounder, and has numerous individual festival and big-match wins on his belt across commercial and natural venues, including White Acres Festivals, The Monkhall Festival, British Pole Championship Final, Weston Pools Festivals, The Sensas Challenge, River Trent Festival, River Tees Festival to name a few.
