About Chris Cox

Born and raised in South Africa up until the age of 12, I started fishing at the age of 6. My mum would take me down the dams with one rod on weekends whilst she would sunbathe! I entered two mens Carp Cups out there at the age of 9 and came first in both events winning a nice amount of cash for my age! Moving to England in 1998, I changed from carp fishing to match fishing for a couple of years, as I didn’t do this sort of fishing back home.

Wanting to go back to carp fishing and having missed it, my dad bought all the bits to start me off again. My little haunt at that time was a day ticket venue where I was just getting used all aspects of the sport again. When I was 16 I moved onto Channels lake near to where I lived and caught all of them in my first year including a lake record. I had started an NVQ in a tackle shop aswell, just to work in the fishing industry. At 17 years old I wanted to go further afield and try the Walthamstow Complex and I managed to bag the big common on my second trip at a lake record 42lb 12oz . I was made up!

At that time the tackle shop I was working for had started up Cleverley fisheries. Through out the years I’ve fished there quite a bit and done really well including catching my pb mirror of 53lbs. I’ve fished other venues in my time including Harefield, Little Easton, The Quarry, Ardleigh res and few others.

I recently entered the Essex Carp championships, and qualified for the final, coming 2nd in the final having lead on the final morning but got over-taken in the last 5 minutes by 11lb!!!

So, in a nutshell, fishing is my life and I wouldn't do anything to change it!!!
