Massive Elphicks North Lake Mirror for Rob! |
|
Consistant carper and Mainline consultant, Rob Marsh, recently contacted us with news of a colossul result, as Rob begins his winter campaign at Elphicks North lake. Rob takes up the story: “With my target water slowing down and only just getting back from Abbey lakes, it was time to have a go for a fish that has been on my mind for a long time now. After speaking to Mark at the lake I soon had some over nighters booked but the lake was really busy and only two Thursday nights were available at first, both ended in blanks, but I had been baiting several spots with a mixture of 10mm Mainline Cell boilies, Cell Response pellets and Hinders Salamiz Hemp along with Hinders mini combi-pellets.
The weather was cock on when I returned back at the lake on Monday afternoon and there were five anglers on, but to my surprise no one was in the swim I had been baiting. With the spomb rod already clipped up I baited with around 3 kilos of mix and then placed two baits on the spot. My first take ended in me losing a good fish at the net. I then landed a 22lb mirror prompting me to spod another couple of kilos of mix. I was up at 6am to pack up as I had to be off the lake by 7am when at 6.30am my right hand rod was away and after a good battle I slid the net under a cracking mirror! I thought the fish was a good forty but when I lifted her out I soon realised it was the big girl on the scales, she went 60lb 6ozs! I was over the moon!”
Robs successful set up included 3lb test curve hi-s rods, 10lb power carp line, Atomic bombz away safety clips set up with tungsten tubing and 2oz gravel swivel leads. The rig was 15lb sandy Jel-E-Wyre tied to size 6 Haula hooks. Hook-baits were 14mm Cell with half a Pineapple pop-up with a fluro maggot soaked in Hinders betalin used as a hair stop.
