Top Mainline Consultant, Dave Levy has been in touch with the details of a recent short-session result. Dave takes up the story: “I turned up at Golden Gates for a quick, over night session and found a few fish sitting in some weed beds. Having located some carp I quickly got the bivvy up, as the sky was looking dark and rain was coming in. I'd just finished tying Cell pop ups to a couple chod rigs when the rain hit hard, with a 30 minute down poor. As I sat waiting to get the rods out a nice mirror carp rolled over twice, I lined up the spot with a tree on the far bank and as soon as the rain slowed I cast a chod rig to the area. It hit the bottom softly and I knew this was due to light weed, which never bothers me with this rig, as this is when the chod rig is working at its best. The other two rods were cast to the edge of a weed bed that was hitting the surface.

Weed beds are great holding areas for carp so when the wind changed around an hour later; I still felt that the carp would stay in the area. It was about 3am when the rod cast to where the carp had showed ripped off and a short while later I landed a lovely looking carp of 24lbs 12ozs. I was just about to re-cast this rod, when the other rod was away and I was into another carp this time a much slower fighting fish. As it came towards the net I could see it was a good-un, maybe 30lbs. This was indeed the case as a few minutes later I weighed her at 31lbs. After a few photos I had to pack up and get away, but not before putting in a few hundred Cell baits in. Keeping the bait going in is a key part of my fishing, as it lets the carp have a free meal, building their confidence to feed on my bait time and time again. So now, I just can't wait to get back down!”

At first we were a little surprised at receiving this report, not because Dave had yet again been wetting his net, but because we thought Dave was abroad on holiday? When we asked Dave about this, he chuckled and said, “Yeah I was, but as soon as I got home, I spooled up with some new line and got out for a quick nights fishing”

With enthusiasm like this, we’re sure it won’t be long before there’s another, Dave Levy success story to report!
