BYCAC Cell'ebrations for Brad Greening |
|
Last week saw junior anglers from around the country descend upon the Linear Complex in Oxfordshire for the 2011 BYCAC weeklong event held on Brasenose 2. The beginning part of the week saw in excess of 130 budding young anglers battle it out through a series of eliminators for a place in the weekends final.
Ultimately there could only be one winner and in dramatic style it was young carper, Brad Greening from St Albans, Hertfordshire, who took the prestigious title of British Young Carpers’Angling Champion 2011.
Everyone at Mainline Baits would like to congratulate Brad, 17 on his win, who told us: “Bait was a key part in my success at winning this year’s BYCAC. Due to the nature of my swim, being very weedy and lots of fish showing in the middle area of the lake, I opted to fish long range, in the hope that if the fish moved down on the wind, I could ambush them. My mix contained whole and chopped Mainline Cell boilies, rolled by The Bait & Feed Company, along with a little hemp, pellets and a few gallons of maggots! My baiting approach was little and often, but the first 36 hours were very slow, resulting in only a couple of small fish. During the final night, I continuously spodded out the bait, in the hope that the fish would come to me, seeing as I couldn’t go to them. Straight after putting the bait out, I had 4 takes, resulting in three fish landed. I then repeated the process and put a lot of bait out again. As the final hour approached, I was in 4th place. Nothing was showing, and it looked as if the match was over. With one hour left, the solid bangs of pellet and plastic corn hook-baits, all soaked in Cell glug, fished over my baited area worked they’re magic again, I landed 3 fish, which resulted in winning the BYCAC within a matter of ounces!”
Entry into the BYCAC is open to all junior anglers of all abilities, for more information and details for the 2012 event, visit: www.bycac.co.uk
