Question This Month's Questions - September 2009
Question1
Rod Simpson

What is your favourite main line for distance work? And what is your favourite main line for fishing in weed? I have been using Big Game for both, but I can’t get on with it as I find it too stretchy. Can you please help?

I would like to try Zig Rigs this winter, but have no experience of using them. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Question 3

I have previously used a bait boat to get my hookbaits and free offerings to swims that are 120yds+ out at my local syndicate water. Whilst I have enjoyed a lot of success, I feel that I will not develop as a carp angler as long as I am relying on my bait boat to fish at distance. After a bit of practice, I can now cast to the required swims I want to fish at, however, I now have the problem of accurately getting freebies out to the fish. Is fishing a single bait dipped in a high-attractant (plus a small PVA bag of freebies) a viable option? I am concerned that whenever I’ve fished at this range previously I have always had a lot of bait around the hook, and I probably wouldn't be able to achieve the distances I need when casting a large PVA bag. What do you suggest?Read the answer

Question 4
John Kneebone

My syndicate ticket is about to expire and I am feeling nervous. I want to move on, but I feel institutionalised. I have fished my current 19-acre gravel pit for the last 5-6 years and feel that I should move on. In fact, I have found another, a lovely 20-acre gravel pit with some very pretty mirrors and loads of commons to over 30lb. I have walked around, talked to the bailiffs, chatted to the other carp fishers, and discussed the lake with my local tackle shop. I have learned that the going boilie is ‘anything with a fish flavour’. HOW CAN I GO WRONG? However I am still hesitant and very nervous. Any help and advice your panel could give me would be appreciated.
