This month's question:

From: James Charlton

Dear team,

I'm about to start fishing a new lake, its 18 acres but only has a small head of big carp. What baiting campaign would you suggest for tackling this kind of situation?

Dear James,

Your number one priority has to be fish location regardless of the size or numbers of carp in your chosen lake. Spend as much time on the water as possible and over a short period of time you will start to see a pattern of where the fish like to be or want to be. Once you have identified these spots it is then a question of placing your chosen bait in a few of these areas so that the fish get used to finding the bait in a non fishing situation. If it is a local water then you are far better off introducing a small amount to 2 or 3 swims every other day than larger amounts say once a week. I would suggest any of the Mainline freezer range of baits and would suggest a steady application for 2 to 3 weeks before you actually start fishing, this will give them the necessary confidence to feed unhindered.
